Norman Manley and Alexander Bustamante |
The Jamaican political climate of the 1970's has left an indelible mark on the politics of today.
After independence the country's political ideology veered off-track and we are reaping those fruits in this generation. Additionally, we have underwent numerous developments during and after that epoch.
We are here seeking a better understanding of that era, and we would like further exposure to discussions and materials that will aid in this endeavour. Please help us to shed light on the the scandals, the bauxite industry, Jamaica & Communism, the 'marrying' of items at the Supermarkets and others events.
Please give your comments and suggestions to aid in unearthing this historic period.
P.S. A colleague suggests reading The Power of Change by Michael Manley.
Jamaica began to face economic crisis in the 1970s when oil prices increases. The effects of this could be seen as poverty began to decline. In my readings I found that the decline in poverty also had to do with the increased interest payments the government of Jamaica had to make in the 1970s. I call upon you to make a serious post about Jamaica's relationship with the IMF....you will find that it began in 1977.
